Description
Nos 73 to 75 Castle Street is an early 18th century house that was refronted in the 1830s. The building has two storeys and is faced with stone, topped by an old tiled mansard roof, a stone parapet, and a moulded cornice. The central section of the facade projects and features three sash windows, with a total of five sashes across the front, each having vestigial cornices and console brackets. There are cast iron balconettes with an anthemion motif, a stringcourse, and a plinth. The ground floor is rusticated, and the double doorcase serving Nos 74 and 75 includes rectangular fanlights, six-panelled doors, and four steps leading up to it. No 73 is attached to the side of No 74 and has a doorcase with a vestigial cornice and two console brackets. The property is enclosed by cast iron spear railings, and the rear elevation retains some original 18th century sashes. Nos 68 to 77 and Nos 80 to 82 Castle Street form a group with this building.
