Description

Nos 40 and 41 Castle Street are a late 18th to early 19th century building of two storeys, constructed in red brick. The roof is hipped in two sections; the right-hand side is covered in old tiles, while the left-hand side is slate. The right-hand side features a parapet with a moulded eaves cornice. The front has two sash windows with intact glazing bars. One sash window is set within a recessed arch on the left side, and there is a mid-19th century splayed bay on the same side. A wooden doorcase has a vestigial cornice and a fanlight above a six-panelled door. A footscraper is present. The building has a basement. Nos 40 to 48 Castle Street form a group valued for their collective architectural qualities.
