Description
The building adjoining Green Court to the left of the gateway is a 12th-century structure featuring a stone-faced arch that includes both a pedestrian and a carriage arch. The arch is adorned with intricate carvings and capitals, supported by corbels. Above the arch, there are two blocked round-headed windows and one double mullioned and transomed window. One wall displays graffiti carved by former pupils of the King's School, with the earliest inscription dating back to 1649. To the left of the arch is a two-storey hall, which is the remaining part of the 12th-century north Hall. The ground floor is arcaded and features groin vaults, while the first floor has nine arched window openings. The upper floor was rebuilt in 1843 by George Auster. This building, along with Nos 20 to 29A, the Pilgrim's or Pentise entry attached to No 29, the wall in the garden of No 29, the wall and gatepiers between Nos 28 and 29, the Gateway from Green Court, and the King's School Library and Normann Staircase, forms a cohesive group.
