Description
The Master's Tower, dating from 1396-1398, was originally the main entrance gateway to the College from the river. It is built of Kentish ragstone and has two storeys topped with a pyramidal tiled roof. The ground floor features a pointed archway, while the first floor has a square-headed window with two cinquefoil-headed lights, supported by a stone mullion and transom. On the north side, there is a small projection with a splayed end, likely housing the staircase. The front also includes a single window with one cinquefoil-headed light on the first floor and a gable fronted with weatherboarding, which is filled with pigeon holes. The Master's Tower is part of a group that includes several significant structures related to the Archbishop's Palace and the College.
