Description
Nos 22 to 26 on The Cathedral Precincts are located on the north side of Green Court. Originally, these buildings served as office spaces for Christchurch Priory, including facilities like the bakehouse, brewery, and granary. They are now part of King's School.
The range consists of three sections, with work from various periods, including modern restoration following bomb damage. The east section is constructed from flints and features two storeys and an attic, with six dormers and eight windows. It has a central gateway and a pointed arch to the west, along with one 15th-century window that has two cinquefoil-headed lights, two 18th-century sash windows, and modern tiled windows. There is a crenellated porch as well.
The centre section is recessed and also has two storeys and attics, made from flint and brick arranged in a diaper pattern. It features 19th-century windows with some mullions and transoms, an off-centre doorcase with a flat hood and brackets, and a six-panelled door. There are two gabled dormers in this section.
The west section is two storeys high, built from flint and brick in a diaper pattern, with an old tiled roof that has five hipped dormers and a parapet. It includes six buttresses and ten windows, as well as a recessed area supported by two stone columns.
These buildings form a group with Nos 20 to 29A, Pilgrim's or Pentise entry attached to No 29, a wall in the garden of No 29, a wall and gatepiers between Nos 28 and 29, a gateway from Green Court, and the adjoining buildings to the left, including King's School Library and the Norman staircase.
