Description

This is a row of cottages located between Hastings Road and the churchyard in Rolvenden. The cottages date to the 18th century (Nos 8-14) and possibly the 16th century or earlier (Nos 16-20). The north front of the cottages features red brick on the ground floor and weatherboarding above. Number 8 has three windows facing west and a lunette window in the centre of its west-facing first floor, along with a doorway with a flat hood. Number 16 has a two-gabled attic and a modern ground floor bay. Number 20 has one window facing east. The timber framing of Nos 16-20 is exposed on the east front of Number 20 and on the first floor. The rear elevation, facing the churchyard, displays close-studding plaster infilling and an oversailing plastered gable containing an attic window. These cottages demonstrate group value from the period.
