Description

The Parish Church of St Mary, located in Rolvenden, is a Grade I listed building. It is constructed of rubble sandstone, with the west tower made of ironstone. The church features a chancel with north and south chapels, a nave with aisles, a north porch with a parvise, and a west tower. The chancel has lancet windows, and the arcades of the chancel and the south arcade of the nave date back to the 15th century, while the north aisle of the nave is from the 14th century. The rest of the church is also from the 15th century. It has a five-bay nave with a kingpost roof, and the organ is supported by four octagonal cast iron columns.

In the south chapel, known as St Katherine and St Mary's Chapel, there is an unusual gallery that was erected in 1825, serving as the family pew for the occupants of Hole Park. Beneath this gallery is the mortuary chapel of the Gybbon-Monypenny family, who lived at Hole Park before the current century. The churchyard contains table tombs, oval bodystones, and 18th-century headstones featuring motifs such as skulls, hourglasses, serpents biting their tails, heavenly crowns, urns, cherubs, and trumpets.
