Description
The building at 23-27 The Green is a house, now used as a house pair or hall of residence. It dates primarily from the 16th century, with significant alterations and refacing in the late 18th century. The structure is timber-framed and rendered, with sections clad in red brick, and has a plain tiled roof.
The building is two storeys high with a basement, and sits on a plinth, featuring a jetty to the right-hand end. A moulded wooden eaves cornice is present on the two bays to the left (number 29), leading to a hipped roof which steps down to the right and has a central stack. The left-hand bays have tripartite glazing bar sashes with gauged heads on each floor, alongside a glazing bar sash over a half-glazed door with a pediment hood in the centre. A basement opening is visible to the left. A boarded door is located to the right (number 27). The centre-right bay has a three-light wooden casement on each floor, with a segmental head on the ground floor, and a four-light wooden casement to the right on the ground floor.
The rear elevation best displays the building as a single structure, revealing a four-framed bay hall house plan, or possibly a continuous-jettied through passage. Rear wings are present, hipped with gables, half-hipped, and catslide roofs.
