Description
The Old Vicarage is a house that now serves as a hall of residence. It dates from the early 17th century and was altered in the mid-19th century. The building features a timber frame clad with red brick, fish-scale tile hanging, and rendered surfaces, topped with a plain tiled roof.
The front range has a two-cell lobby entry and includes rear wings. Originally three storeys high, it has been reduced to two. The structure has a plinth, a moulded bressumer at the first floor, and a bracket bressumer supporting the jettied second floor. The roof is adorned with three gables that have moulded barge-boards and pendants, along with a central moulded stack. Below the gables, there is a continuous row of blocked mullioned lights.
The front also features two two-storey canted bays with wooden casements, and a central casement on the first floor. The main entrance is a central door with six panels set within a pediment-gabled doorcase. At the rear, there is a long wing that is one storey with an attic, tile hung with a brick end wall and gabled dormers.
