Description

This is a building of three houses, dating from the 17th to 18th century, situated on the High Street. The houses are two storeys high with attics. The ground floor is brick, while the upper floors of number 27 are covered in colourwashed tile hanging, and those of numbers 23 and 25 are covered in colourwashed mathematical tiles. The roofs are tiled with hips, incorporating three hipped dormers and a moulded eaves cornice. There are five sash windows, two of which are double-hung. A coved, shaped cornice or hood runs the entire length of the front, underneath which the shop fronts have been built. Although the original shop fronts have been largely replaced with modern alternatives in numbers 23 and 27, one original window with small square panes survives within the shop front of number 25. A south wing behind number 23 has a gable, now clad in weatherboarding. The rear elevation is characterised by three tiled hipped gables. The buildings contribute to a group value with the other listed buildings on the South side, numbered 17 to 57.
