Description

Young Manor Farmhouse is a manor house dating from the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries. It features a timber frame clad in red brick, with the brickwork laid in English bond and a plain tile roof. On the left side, there is a hall house that has been raised to two storeys and was clad in early 18th-century red brick. It has a hipped roof with a ridge stack located towards the centre left. To the right is a mid-17th-century cross wing, which has two storeys and an attic set on a plinth. This section includes a double plat band at the first floor and another at the attic, along with a string course above the attic window, all beneath a stepped gable. There is a truncated projecting end stack to the right. The windows exhibit irregular fenestration, featuring 20th-century wooden casements alongside 17th- and 20th-century brick mullioned windows. The entrance includes a 19th-century six-panelled door set within a shallow projecting surround, featuring a double chamfered four-centred arch and jambs to the centre right. Inside, the timber frame consists of heavy scantling. The cross wing is floored at a higher level than the hall, which boasts very high ceilings in the ground floor rooms. A large stack includes a barrel-vaulted passage leading through to the left end bay.
