Description
Black Beams is a cottage dating from around 1700, with a later extension from the 20th century. It features a timber frame that is partly exposed, with plaster infill, and has been extended with painted brick. The roof is plain tiled and has a gambrel shape, with a raking dormer and a stack that projects and is offset to the left end. Originally a single cell unit, the cottage is one storey with an attic, built on a stone plinth. The ground floor includes a single three-light leaded wooden casement window and an off-centre boarded door. There is an outshot at the rear and a mid-20th century extension to the left that has a glazed door and sidelights. This cottage is a rare example of a small rural dwelling, likely used for sheep watchers.
