Description

TQ 93 NE ORLESTONE HAMSTREET ROAD (west side) 2/90 Bromley Green Farmhouse 27.11.57 II House. C16 or earlier, altered C16 to C19. Timber framed, part exposed with roughcast infill, underbuilt by red brick and flanked by brick-clad wings. Plain tiled roof. Hall house origin, possibly a Wealden plan. Two storeys, on plinth, in part of ragstone, with jetty to central 2 framed bays. The brickwork to left hand wing is early C18, the west probably C19. Hipped roof with gablets and stacks to centre left, at end left and at end right. Four old leaded metal casements on 1st floor, and 3 segmentally headed C20 metal casements on ground floor. Half-glazed door to centre left. Two storey rear wing. Interior: screens passage survives with one chamfered almost round-arched doorway. Hollow chamfered dais beam with fillet. Tongue- stopped chamfered ceiling beams (C16 insertion) ; blocked inglenook fireplaces. Partly exposed tie beams, which may have taken crown posts, although a possibly earlier roof and frame structure may survive, (aisled or semi aisles?).
