Description
Parsonage House, also known as Browns Stores, is located on the north side of The Street in Smarden. The shop portion facing the street is from the 19th century, constructed of red brick with grey headers, featuring a gable adorned with fretted bargeboards. Behind the shop, the house is an L-shaped timber-framed structure, likely dating back to the 15th century, with some areas of plaster, painted brick infilling, and close-studding. The south end of the west front has a gable that includes an attic window. The eaves of the south front overhang significantly, supported by a longitudinal beam and brackets. The roof is tiled, and there are some original mullioned windows alongside casement windows. A 19th-century porch is present on the south front. The building has two storeys, with three windows facing west and two windows facing south. The courtyard to the south is paved with Bethersden Marble.
