Description

The Church of St Michael is a Grade I listed building located in Smarden. The chancel and nave date back to the 14th century, while the west tower was built in the 15th century. Notable features include two piscinas, sedilia, and an aumbry. The church is often referred to as the "Barn of Kent" due to the design of its roof and the width of the nave. The churchyard contains several 18th-century table tombs and headstones, some of which feature double designs with cherub, skull, or bone and mattock motifs.
