Description

Barn Cottage is a 17th-century cottage with an 18th-century barn attached, alongside 20th-century additions. The cottage is timber-framed with flint and brick encasing for the original structure and additions, while the barn is weatherboarded. It is a 1½-storey building comprising two 17th-century bays, a two-bay barn to the right, and two 20th-century bays added to the left. There are entrances in the left end of the barn, which has been rebuilt in brick, and at the left end of the 17th-century section. The 17th-century bays feature two 2-light casement windows, with similar windows in the left bays. A wide 5-light eyebrow dormer is present in the 17th-century part, accompanied by smaller dormers on either side. The roof is hipped, with a ridge piece and a stack located at the left end of the 17th-century part and to the right of the barn’s entrance. The barn was once a village forge.
