Description

Godsfield Chapel, located adjacent to Godsfield Farmhouse, is a Grade I listed building that dates back to the late 14th century. Originally a chapel, it has been repurposed as a store. The structure is built from rendered rubble flint with stone dressings and features a tiled roof, brick ridge stacks at the eastern end and the west center, and a stone stack at the western end. The building has an L-shape, with the chapel forming the long stem and the priest's lodgings making up the short base at the west end.

On the south side, there are three 17th-century single-light windows with cusped trefoil heads and hood mouldings. At the west end, there is a square-headed window with a cinquefoiled light above a small square window. The west end also features a similar window and two offset projections for the garderobe and staircase, with a north roof outshot above. The north side has two pointed doorways: the eastern door leads to the chapel, while the western door, at a lower level, leads to the lodging. There is also a small altar light at the west end.

Inside the chapel, there is a 20th-century medieval-style fireplace at the west end. The doors and windows have four-centred rear arches, and there is a 19th-century square opening leading to the lower priest's lodging, which has a small square light at the first-floor level. The chapel's roof features a 19th-century queen post and three trusses of a 15th-century arch-braced roof.

The priest's lodging has three doorways on its north wall, with pointed arches for the front door and staircase, and a round arch at the west leading to the store. The lodging has a small fireplace on the west wall with a large stone bressemer and a heavily beamed ceiling. A stone staircase with an arch at the top leads to a room with chamfered moulding that has a stop near the floor level. There is a small doorway in the west wall leading to the garderobe, and another fireplace in the east wall with a large stone bressemer.
