Description

Armsworth House is a small country house dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick, originally stuccoed, with a slate roof and brick stacks. The building is square in plan, with a 20th-century extension to the rear. The front facade is two storeys and three bays, with a projecting, single-storey, flat-roofed porch added. The porch has a large, 16-pane sash window with small side panes within a raised timber surround. The original door opening is visible above a later door, and there is a side door to the porch. Each side of the front elevation has a 16-pane sash window. Above these are smaller 16-pane sashes, with a large 12-pane sash in the centre. Coupled brackets are present on the small eaves fascia. The roof is low-pitched and hipped. Brick stacks with stone dressings to the caps are on the return ridge at each side. The house is set on rising ground above a park, with a terraced garden in front, which steps down to battlemented topiary yew hedges. It is located to the west of the site of the 18th-century Harmsworth House.
