Description

The Grotto, located 200 meters east-north-east of Cranbury House in the cutting of an old path, dates from the early 19th century and is possibly designed by J B Papworth. It features a brick-lined chamber that is rendered on the inside with shells attached. The vaulted brick chamber opens onto the carriageway at the front. Currently, it is in a ruinous state, with much of the render and shells missing, and tree roots damaging the vault. There are carved stone fragments on each side pile.
