Description

The stable block at Cranbury House was built in 1864, with restoration completed in 1963. It features rubbed brick, stone sills, and mounting blocks, topped with a slate roof behind a parapet. The building has a half-H shape, with a wide central archway flanked by four bays on each side and a single projecting wing at each end, making it two storeys tall. The central bay is slightly taller and projects outward, showcasing a tall rusticated central arch and quoins. Above this is a string course that supports a round-headed window and modillions beneath a wide moulded brick cornice. The side bays have a plinth and indented aprons below round-headed windows, which feature stone sills and rusticated architraves. The string course continues across from the arch to a panelled parapet with stone coping. Each wing contains a full-height panel with a rusticated brick architrave and a door, topped with a window and an inscribed panel in between. The wings mirror the central bay in design, except they feature a tall round-headed panel with a rusticated architrave, an internal window, and a round-headed window above, both with stone sills. Attached to the northern end and forming part of the courtyard is a single-storey brick shed that shares similar architectural details.
