Description

Northend House is a building that has been converted into flats. It dates from the late 17th century and was extended in the mid and late 18th century, as well as in the early 19th and 20th centuries. The exterior features a mix of diaper and chequer brickwork along with plain brick, topped with old plain tile roofs. The original late 17th-century house is positioned end-on to the road, with 18th-century bays added to one end. The road-facing end has been rebuilt, featuring projecting wings on one side and a parallel service range on the other, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century. An additional projecting wing was added to the far end in the early 20th century, along with a parallel range behind it.

The garden front is two stories high, with a three-bay center and two-bay cross-wings at each end. The center bay on the road end features late 17th-century diaper brick on the ground floor and mid-18th-century chequer brick above. The ground floor has French windows, while the upper floor has 2-light casements. The other late 18th-century center bays include a hip-roofed bay on the ground floor and two wide 8-pane sash windows above. The gabled cross-wings have tall 12-pane sash windows, except for two French windows on the road and wing. The roof includes two 2-light dormers in the center, a small ridge stack in the middle, a large ridge stack at the end of the center range, and stacks on the outer walls of the cross-wings.
