Description
No. 36 West Street is a house built in the early 19th century, with an extension or alteration from 1868. It is constructed of brick, featuring a slate roof at the front and a tile roof at the rear. The symmetrical two-storey front elevation has two bow windows, each with two windows, except for the doorway located on the west side. The building has a stone plinth and stone window cills, with red header brickwork and rubbed flat arches. The windows are sashes set in reveals. An old arched fanlight, which has a circular and curved pattern, is preserved within the original door frames, now framed by a stone Doric doorcase that dates to 1868. This doorcase includes a concave inner moulding, a patterned wall above the arch, and an architrave with a cornice that follows the curve of the wall. Inside, the hall features a top-lit staircase and original door frames.
