Description

This is a terrace of five houses built in the early to mid-19th century. The houses are constructed of stuccoed brick with a slate roof.

The terrace is two storeys high with a basement, and features a hipped roof with overhanging eaves. The windows are multi-pane sash windows with moulded stucco architraves. The front doors are 2-panel doors with a rectangular light above, set within plain architraves. A horizontal band divides the ground and first floors. Numbers 1 to 4 on Edgar Road are two bays wide, with a blind window above the entrance. Later dormers have been added to numbers 2 and 4. Number 1 St James' Lane forms the northern return of the terrace and has a symmetrical three-bay facade. The western ground floor of this house is blind; the ground floor to the right is a later canted bay. A bracketed cornice sits above the door. Due to an irregular plot, the house is deeper on the west side, resulting in asymmetrically shaped rooms. The interior wall behind the blind window is curved to compensate for this.

The interior of the houses has not been inspected.

The terrace is designated as a building of group value for its cohesive and well-preserved early to mid-19th century stuccoed appearance.
