Description
The Rising Sun is a public house located on Swanmore Hill, dating from the 17th century. It features a timber frame that was raised and reclad in the 18th century, with some 19th-century elements and a south extension. The walls are constructed of brick in Flemish bond with blue headers, and there are two flush blue header bands at the first floor. The ground-floor openings are cambered, and the north wall displays exposed framing in the gable, indicating two phases of construction. The roof is half-hipped and tiled, with a catslide at the rear. The south-east front elevation is two storeys high, with four windows above two. The upper sashes are in exposed frames, while the lower windows are casements. There are two plain doorways, each set within late 19th-century gabled porches that have trellis frames above brick base walls.
