Description
Thatched Cottages, originally a house now divided into two cottages, date from the 16th century with 18th and 19th century additions. The structure is timber-framed with brick infill, and the rear has been rendered. The roof is a combination of thatch and tiles. The front elevation features one and a half storeys on a brick plinth, with the lower panels of the frame filled with alternating courses of brick and flint. The building has four bays, with the two central bays being timber-framed. The 18th century bay has a lean-to on the right, while the 19th century bay is on the left. There are doors in both the lean-to and the 19th century bay. All windows are from the 19th century, including small sash windows and a two-light casement in the oldest part, as well as a two-light casement in the left bay. The right bay features an eyebrow dormer, and there are two-light casements in the gabled dormers over the central bays. The roof is steeply pitched and half hipped at the right end, with tiles around the dormer windows and thatch laid over, complemented by a decorated ridge piece. The building has gable end stacks and a large stack over the left bay of the timber-framed section.
