Description
Chernocke House, now known as Carlisle House, is an early to mid-18th century building located on the west side of St Thomas Street. It features three storeys and a basement with red brick walls. A string course runs between the ground and first floors, topped by a moulded wood cornice. The south front is partly covered in mathematical tiles and has five windows. The entrance boasts a good door with a plain surround, scroll brackets, and a moulded arched pediment, although this is obscured by a glazed approach from the street. The windows are sash style with glazing bars set in rubbed heads. The building has a hipped old tile roof and includes a 19th-century wing on the north front. All the listed buildings on St Thomas Street form a group.
