Description
Slackstead Manor is a house dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of brick with an old plain tile and slate roof. The building is a double pile, two-storey structure with an attic and features five bays. The central doorway has top-glazed double doors set in a solid frame, which has a lower rubbed head compared to the other openings. On either side of the doorway are two tall 12-pane sash windows, and on the first floor, there are five 12-pane sash windows, all with rubbed brick heads. The eaves of the mansard roof are coved and moulded, and there are two 19th-century, two-light gabled dormers on either side of the centre. The house has large end stacks.
At the rear, the central and left bays contain a full-height staircase hall featuring early 18th-century panelling, including a fine panelled archway leading to the front door. The open well staircase from the early 18th century has turned balusters and newels, a moulded handrail, and dado panelling. The first-floor ceiling has a moulded cornice. The ground floor includes an early 18th-century dining room with panelling around the walls and shelved niches on either side of the fireplace. The left bay at the rear has early 18th-century sashes with thick glazing bars.
