Description
This is a terrace of six almshouses built in 1815, which remain unaltered in form and use. The structure is made of brick and tile, featuring a symmetrical front (north-west) with a layout of three, two, and three windows. It has a hipped tile roof with brick dentil eaves and a catslide at the rear. Above the central section, there is a pediment that contains a stone plaque inscribed with "Erected and endowed for VI poor Widows AD MDCCCXV pursuant to the will of Thomas Shepheard." The walls are painted brick in Flemish bond with rubbed flat arches and pilasters flanking the central section, along with a plinth. The windows are casements, and there are blank panels above the two inner doorways that lead to through passageways, providing access to the units on each side. The front features four boarded doors in plain openings. The rear has been improved and includes late 20th-century casements.
