Description

Amport Church of England Primary School is a primary school built in 1815, with 20th-century extensions. The building is constructed of brick and slate and features a symmetrical front on the west side that mirrors the design of the nearby almshouses. It stands two storeys high with a pattern of two, two, and two windows. The roof is raised in the center to form a pediment, which displays a stone plaque that reads, "In pursuance of the intention of Thomas Shepheard DD his widow caused this school house to be erected for the use and benefit of the poor children of this parish AD MDCCCXV." Above this, there is a square turret topped with a lead pyramid roof and boarded walls.

The walls are made of red brick in Flemish bond, featuring stepped eaves with a blue band and stone corner blocks, rubbed flat arches, and pilasters at the centerpiece. The windows are casements. The doorway on the south side of the center, which was originally the master's house, has a simple cornice, frieze, pilasters, and a four-panelled door. The north gable, which serves as the school entrance, contains a doorway set within an arched recess, complete with stone key and impost blocks, a cornice on brackets, and a six-panelled door. Above this door is another stone plaque inscribed, "This school was endowed AD MDCCCXVI." To the east of the north gable, there is a lower wing added in the 20th century, designed in a similar style.
