Description

The Red Cottage is a 17th-century cottage located on Paynes Hay Road in Braishfield. It features a timber-frame construction with wattle and daub and brick infill, topped by a thatched roof. The cottage has two bays and a hip bay, with a shortened third bay at one end. There is a ledged door in a solid frame, sheltered by a thatch hood, positioned to the right of the center bay. Each bay contains irregular two or three-light casements. Above the left of the center bay, there is an eyebrow dormer with a two-light casement. The first floor showcases herringbone brick panels. The roof is half-hipped on the left end and sweeps down to the right, with a large stack situated above the door.
