Description
The Steps to Rendezvous, located at the end of Long Walk 20 meters northwest of Marsh Court, were designed by E. L. Lutyens and built between 1901 and 1905. Constructed from stone with knapped flint, the steps form a three-sided small enclosure with semi-circular steps that rise to a narrow opening in the north wall, leading to a viewing platform. On one side, at the end of the walk above the moat in front of the house, there are two tall square piers, each 3.5 meters high, featuring a moulded cornice and an obelisk finial, with no parapet between them. The opposite side has a balustraded parapet. Set into the lower part of the wall on both sides are oval niches at the bottom of console corbels. The end wall has a square pier near each corner that rises 0.5 meters above the balustraded parapet. Between these piers, the parapet descends from each side to short piers on either side of the opening for the steps.
