Description

These terraced properties, numbered 30 to 42 Church Lane, date from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. The main fronts face southwest, with the rear elevations overlooking Church Lane. Numbers 30 and 32 have a slightly lower frontage and roofline, and have been pebble-dashed. Number 42 also features some vitreous brick headers. Number 36 has been re-fronted. The windows are square on the second floor, with two-light casements or sash windows. On the first and ground floors, sash windows with four panes are set in brick reveals featuring brick voussoirs, particularly visible on numbers 34, 38, 40, and 42. Numbers 30, 32, and 36 have two-light casement windows. Windows on the northwest side of number 42 have modern louvred shutters. Doorways are grouped in pairs, except for number 42, which has its entrance on the northwest side. Numbers 30 and 32 feature doorways with panelled pilasters and a frieze with raised diamond-shaped panels above the pilasters; the doors are set in reveals. The next pair of doorways (leading to numbers 34 and 36 and to numbers 38 and 40) have plain pilasters on the sides and central pilaster, a common frieze with a narrow moulded string, and small, moulded flat hoods above. The doors are six-panelled, with the upper panels cut away and glazed (a modern glazed door is present at number 36). Number 42 has a modern six-fielded panel door on the northwest side, beneath a flat-headed doorway. A modern, pebble-dashed single-story addition is present on the left-hand side of the northwest elevation, featuring a single sash window with a shutter.
