Description

The building at 28 and 30 Church Street dates to the late 18th and early 19th centuries and was originally a single house. It stands on a slightly lower level than the adjacent building at number 26 and is set back from the street. The roof is hipped and covered with slate, and the exterior is red brick. The property is three storeys high and has a wide front with only three bays. It features sash windows with four panes, set within brick reveals and framed by rubbed brick voussoirs. The ground floor of number 28 has been stuccoed and features a plate glass shop window with a fascia above. A door is located to the south of the shop window. The two northernmost bays contain two sash windows similar to those on the upper floors, while a house door with flush panels is flanked by these windows. The central two panels of the door have been cut away and glazed, and it is topped by a rectangular fanlight divided into three sections. The doorcase consists of fluted Doric pilasters with a frieze that includes raised diamond panels in the centre and at the ends, which project over the pilasters. A small, flat hood with modillions is positioned above the frieze.
