Description
The George Inn is a public house dating from the 17th century. It is a timber-framed building that has been refronted twice, with the current front featuring a combination of timber framing, banded brick, and flint. The roof is tiled, replacing the original thatch. The building has one storey and an attic, with a wide range of four windows. Each end of the roof is half-hipped, and it has curving eaves above the upper windows. There is a projecting band at the cill level of the upper windows, which is part of the 18th-century cladding, above a tiled weathering on the new facade that reveals an exposed box frame made of old timber. The windows are casements. A rustic timber porch with a segmental tiled roof enhances the entrance. On the east side, there is an open timber-framed well house that contains part of the winding gear. The rear and west gable displays original exposed framing that is brick-nogged.
