Description
The Old Post Office Cottage is an early 18th-century two-bay cottage, with a further bay added in the mid-19th century. The front of the cottage is painted brick, with a partially timber-framed construction. It has a half-hipped thatched roof with eyebrow dormers, two of which are splayed at the base. The ground floor features three casement windows with cambered heads. A central doorcase has a plank door and a flat moulded wooden cornice decorated with dentils and wooden brackets. A one-storey extension of lower elevation was added to the left hand side in the 19th century, featuring a four-light casement window and a Dutch door. The plinth extends outwards at the rear.
Inside, there are stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops and lambs tongue steps, along with an inglenook fireplace containing a beehive-shaped bread oven. A winder staircase is also present, along with a queen post roof and exposed wall framing of thin scantling. The interior includes a six-panelled door from the early 19th century and a plank door, likely introduced later.
