Description

This is a mid-18th century cottage located in Little London. It is constructed of flint with brick lacing courses and dressings, now painted and partially roughcast to the front. The roof is thatched, with eyebrows and dormers, and a thin frame is exposed in the gable end. A 19th-century outshot with a slate roof is located to the left. The attic storey features two trapezoid-shaped windows with 19th-century casements. The ground floor has windows with cambered heads and replaced casements similar to the originals. A plank door with a gabled weather hood is on the right side of the cottage. A twisted brick chimneystack sits below the ridge. Inside, the entrance is via an 18th-century straight wooden staircase, which has a newel post with a rare, rustic acorn finial. The cottage is included on the list as an unaltered example of a vernacular building type.
