Description

The Old Bakery is a range of cottages, now combined into a single dwelling, dating to the late 18th century, with additions and alterations in the early and late 19th century, and 20th-century restoration work. The building is constructed of cob and brick, with a thatched and tiled roof. Originally a pair of thatched cottages, a further unit was added to the south end, creating an irregular frontage of one and a half storeys and an attic, with five windows above seven. The north end has a half-hipped roof, with the roof structure exposed in the upper gable. The eaves are raised above the upper windows and lowered above the porch. The southern unit has a tiled roof with scalloped bands. The walls are plain rendered on a plinth, with the south side featuring painted brickwork in a Flemish bond pattern. Some openings are cambered, and the windows are casements. There is a 20th-century solid porch, a boarded door, and a former doorway that has been filled in. The building is included on the listing for group value.
