Description
Lower Cottage is a house built in the mid-19th century. It is constructed from flint and brick, topped with a slate roof. The house was built by a builder for himself and includes adjoining sheds, showcasing fine construction in the local style. The front (east) elevation features two storeys and four windows, with a plain roof that is hipped at the south end. The walls are made up of panels of coursed squared knapped flint, accented with brick quoins, bands, verticals, cambered ground-floor openings, and a plinth. The windows are casements that include mullions and transoms. The entrance features a six-panelled door, two of which are top-glazed, set in a plain opening. Above the door is a decorative lead concave canopy, supported by carved brackets and trellis cheeks.
