Description
Freewantle Farm is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with extensions added in the 18th century. The house is timber-framed and originally appeared as such, though it was later covered with brick and plaster, and now has a thatched roof. It has three bays, including a passage/stack bay and a bay added to the left in the 18th century, presenting as a one-and-a-half-storey structure. The front features a 6-panel door set within a narrow bay on the right, accessed via an open-gabled timber porch. To either side of the door are 3-light casement windows dating from the 19th century, with a segmental head. Above these is an 18th-century 3-light casement set in an eyebrow dormer. The second bay from the left has two 20th-century 3-light windows, the upper one within an eyebrow dormer. The added portion of the house is blank. The roof is hipped and slopes downwards to the left, with a ridge piece; a large, 3-flued stack is positioned above and to the left of the door, and another stack is located on the left hip at the end of the original building.
