Description
The Old Rectory, now a private house, is a Grade II* listed building dating from the mid-18th century, with extensions added in the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick with blue headers on the ends and has an old plain tile roof. The building is two stories high with an attic above a raised basement and features five original bays, with two additional bays added to the right and some extensions to the rear in the early 19th century.
The original part of the house has T-shaped steps leading up to the central bay, which has a wrought iron handrail, rebuilt in the 20th century. There are some casement windows in the basement. The central doorcase is flanked by pilasters and supports an open pediment. Inside, there is a semi-circular fanlight above a half-glazed door. Each side of the door are two 12-pane sash windows under rubbed brick heads, with blind boxes and stone sills. The first floor features five similar sash windows. A moulded timber cornice runs along the top of the building, and above the three central bays is a brick pediment with a bullseye window and a moulded timber architrave. Each side of the pediment has two 2-light hip-roofed casements. There are large ridge stacks at each end of the original part of the house. The added two bays are slightly set back and have four similar sash windows without blind boxes. All the sashes to the right of the door have thick glazing bars, and the cornice is carried through. The interior contains features of interest from the 18th century.
