Description

The bridge next to the Fishing Cottage in Upper Clatford is a road bridge over the River Anton, built in 1843. It is a cast-iron structure made by the local firm of Taskers. The bridge features a double span and is supported by eight beams that are formed as arched frames. These frames have decorative diminishing circles in the spandrels, which are exposed on the outer faces. The beams rest on cast plates that have panelled decoration, with splayed plates at each end serving as abutments. At the top of each curve, there are keys with cast lettering that reads "Tasker 1843..." above a rosette. Each junction of the bridge supports a moulded slender column, and between these columns are three horizontal rails.
