Description
Thatchers Cottage is a cottage located at right-angles to the roadway, with origins dating back to the 16th, 17th, and late 18th centuries. The house has three phases of construction, starting as a two-bay timber-framed hall from the late medieval period. A floor was inserted later when a large fireplace was added at the southeast end, likely accompanied by an extension of another bay. The exterior was re-clad in the mid-18th century, with further additions made at the southeast end in the early 19th century. The cottage features flint walls and a thatched roof, with one storey and an attic, and it has four windows. The roof is half-hipped at the northwest end, exposing the frame in the gable, while the other end is hipped and includes eyebrow dormers. The flint walls have brick quoins and verticals, indicating the various changes and additions over time. There are 20th-century casements and a porch, above which is a stone plaque inscribed with "HE 1759." Inside, there is a large chimney breast and part of the original frame remains visible.
