Description
The terrace at 20-28 Palmerston Street dates to the late 18th century. Numbers 20, 22 and 24 are two-storey buildings with attics, each featuring a hipped dormer window. Numbers 26 and 28 are two-storey buildings with a lower ridge line. The buildings are constructed of red brick and have tile roofs with slate verges. The ridge lines vary in height across the terrace. The windows are predominantly casement windows; numbers 20, 22 and 24 have a single 2-light casement window on the first floor, number 28 has two, and number 26 has a single 3-light casement window on the first floor. Each ground floor window is a sash window with four panes, set within a moulded frame and featuring rubbed brick voussoirs. Numbers 22 and 24 share a common frieze and hood above their coupled doorways. The doors have six fielded panels, with the upper two panels cut away and glazed in numbers 20 and 28, and the upper four panels cut away and glazed in number 26. The doorcases include pilasters, plain friezes and small, flat hoods supported by shaped brackets. The terrace is part of a group of listed buildings including numbers 70-84 (even) and 47-55 (odd) on The Hundred.
