Description

The Kings Head Public House dates to the late 18th century. It is a two-storey building, noticeably lower than the adjacent property at number 78, with a lower ridge line. The roof is slate-covered, and the exterior is painted brick. The first floor has three windows, the central one featuring a semi-circular head with radiating glazing. A 19th-century angular bay window is located on the ground floor to the west. The central doorway has been altered, and includes panelled reveals, plain pilasters, a moulded entablature, and a three-light window to the east, with altered glazing. Painted brick north-south wings, arranged in two parallel rows, extend northwards along the east side of a yard. These wings are also two-storey and have three windows. The public house is part of a group value with numbers 47 to 55 (odd) and 70 to 84 (even) on Palmerston Street.
