Description

This group of cottages, now two dwellings, dates largely to the 17th century, with 18th-century alterations and additions, and a reconstruction in the centre dating to around 1900. The cottages have painted plaster and brick walls and some exposed timber framing, covered by a thatched roof with gables, half-hips, inset and eyebrow dormers, and projecting catslides, creating an uneven skyline that links the buildings together. The older sections are of irregular form, while the central section exaggerates traditional features. It has a gable with a wide ground floor window, set back at the north side as a half-splayed bay supported by a timber bracket, and a large timber-framed, projecting, two-storeyed porch with an overhanging boarded first floor. This porch is topped by an oriel window beneath a further overhanging gable. The cottages now appear as a rambling group, prominently situated at a road junction opposite the churchyard.
