Description

Upton House is a 17th-century timber-framed house that was re-clad with brick in the late 18th century, with an early 19th-century addition to the rear, creating a double-pile plan. The house is constructed of brick and flint, with thatched and slate roofs. The wide front elevation, originally part of two houses, has two storeys and three windows. The front section features a ½-hipped thatched roof and exposed framing in the gables, with brick dentil eaves. Flint walls are visible, with brick quoins, vertical and horizontal bands, and indications of past alterations. Old leaded casements are present in the upper windows, along with two early 19th-century splayed bays with sashes, and one further sash window to the ground floor. The doorway has a moulded canopy supported by carved brackets, with decorative struts and a panelled soffit, leading to a six-panelled door with a glazed upper section. The rear block has a hipped slate roof and Victorian sash windows. A verandah extends across the west end of the rear block.
