Description
The stables, located 10 metres south west of The Old Rectory, date from the early 19th century and are currently used as a garage and stores. Constructed from brick and tile, the building is a narrow block that backs onto the roadway, featuring all its architectural details on the east side, which faces the courtyard.
The east elevation is symmetrical, with a slightly projecting centrepiece that includes a gabled dormer above 20th-century garage doors, which have replaced the original coach doors. On either side of the centrepiece, there is a central doorway flanked by a window on each side. To the north, lower service blocks extend from the main structure.
The roof is made of half-nipped tiles, with a hipped slate section at the north end, and the eaves feature brick dentils. The walls are constructed of red brick in header bond, with blue brick recessed panels above the windows. The window openings have an ogee shape with rubbed voussoirs, and the windows themselves are casements. The doors are boarded.
