Description
North Lodge is a mid-19th century brick lodge and gateway, with stone dressings and a plain tile roof. The building has a T-plan, oriented with its end facing the road, and includes a long two-story porch wing that points towards the drive. A gateway is built onto the pointed end of the porch, and the far gatepier features a 19th-century “holy well.” The road front of the porch wing has a plinth wall and three brick piers supporting the first floor, above an armorial tablet. The end of the porch has a large pointed pier supporting a first-floor oriel window and gable wall. A diagonally set brick stack is located at the junction with the main range, which has a rounded end with three tall casements on the ground floor and three casements above. A sill string runs around the porch to the oriel window. The building has a stepped cornice and a rounded roof. The far side of the lodge features two large, shaped external stacks.
