Description

Nos. 1, 3, and 5 are a mid to late 19th century corner block located at the junction of Gosport Street and Quay Hill. The building features a white brick facade with a cornice, blocking course, and a slate roof. The facade facing Gosport Street has three storeys and five windows, which are sash windows with late 19th century glazing. There are bracketed cornices above the first-floor windows, while the top-floor windows have painted stuccoed lintels, with some windows being blank.

The ground floor includes a northern altered 19th century shop front, flanked by a round-arched door to the east and double carriageway doors under a western arch. Both arches are adorned with stucco keystones and impost blocks. The southern shop front is well-preserved, now divided into two shops, featuring arched lights and a cornice with end stops. The facade facing Quay Hill is made of red brick, with the ground floor being colourwashed. This side also has three storeys and a basement, with a modern reproduction bow window and one sash window on the ground floor.

Additionally, there is a small cast iron bollard from the 19th century located against the corner of No. 1 at the junction. The building holds an important position at the junction of four of the town's main streets. Nos. 1 to 11 (odd) form a group.
