Description
The Old Brown House is a building that now serves as a restaurant. It has a core that dates back to the 16th century, was refronted in the 18th century, and has been altered in the 20th century. The structure features a timber-frame core with a rendered brick front that includes 20th-century mock framing, topped by an old plain tile roof with medieval ridge tiles.
The building is two stories high and has three bays, with a wing at the rear. The front of the house features an 18th-century six-panel door set in a full doorcase, which has pilasters supporting a pediment at the right-hand end. To the left of the center, there is a half-glazed door. To the right of the center, there is a canted bay with a moulded fascia and an added light beside it in the center. The left bay contains a three-light casement window. On the first floor, there is a 20th-century cross-window in the end bays, and the building is finished with a dentilled cornice.
